November really brought the cold this year! As a scarf designer, I'm
always happy to feel a chill in the air and to see the glowing golds,
russets and reds of autumn. It starts us down the slippery slope to
the holidays, thinking of fun and frolic and of those less fortunate.
This year, the Beehive Co-op, Stone + Mann, and other designers
have joined forces with The Partnership at DrugFree.org to offer
specially selected items for sale through the Beehiveshop.com
website. Look for items marked with a blue ribbon -- a percentage
of your purchase of these items goes directly to The Partnership.

This month brings a new chapter to Stone + Mann as we celebrate joining the
Beehive Co-op in Mt. Kisco, NY. Founded and run by Petra Geiger, the Co-op
consists of a group of more than fifty designers, most of whom are locally-based
-- like us!
It's exciting to be welcomed into this fantastic company. It gives Jackie
the chance to meet with customers one-on-one. It gives our customers
the opportunity to personally experience the rich textures of lace, silk and wool in our
scarves, to try on the warm reds, greens and browns of fall and to enjoy the
softness, depth and intricacy of our patterned pillows.
In addition, we will be placing some of our items online for sale through the
Beehive Co-op website. We'll let you know when that happens.
But in the meantime, come visit the Beehive Co-op at 337 E. Main Street, Mt Kisco, NY,
or online at: www.beehiveco-op.com.

"Scarves are having a major moment right now, but Tarrytown couple Kent Frankstone, a former attorney, and Jackie Edelmann Frankstone, who worked in retail for B. Altman and Macy’s, were way ahead of the trend when, 16 years ago, they launched their designer scarf business, Stone + Mann Design.

"I had a lovely email earlier this week from Jackie of Stone + Mann, introducing me to the beautiful line of scarves and pillows she and her husband Kent design for their company. Their work is influenced by photography, architecture, nature and pure, simple color, and is carried in boutiques from New York to San Franciso. Shown here is just a sampling of their wonderful creations — do go and have a look at the rest of their (gorgeously designed) site, too. I have a feeling I may succumb and order a scarf soon ..." What is it about Spring that makes a person want to skip work, smell the lilacs and maybe
even eat asparagus? There is, no doubt, something magical and sweet about the arrival of
Spring. For us, it's even more precious because it seems to take so long to get to New York!
So let's bring out new colors and a lighter touch. Our latest collection of scarves features
ruffles and pleats in styles that will make even the un-frilly want to try just a bit of frill.
We've refreshed our classics, and added high-voltage iridescents too. Our colors range
from subtle to bright, to fresh and delicious -- smokey quartz, periwinkle,
lemon and limeade and cafe au lait.
And very soon, we will launch (finally) our first two collections of pillows. To begin:
tucked and pleated duoppioni silks. Next: a vibrant selection of our own
prints, based on botanical photography, but with a few twists and new techniques.
They are lush and colorful, and unlike anything you've seen from us so far.
Can't wait, right? Check out our new scarves today, and check back soon...Thanks.

Launch -- Nov 26, 2008
Just in the nick of time and turkey, our online store is open! We're terrifically excited, admittedly exhausted and a little behind in figuring out which sweet potato recipe to go with for tomorrow. So let's let that suffice news-wise for now -- thanks for visiting and happy holidays to all.
Work in Progress -- Nov 26, 2008
You'll see several spots throughout the site that are accompanied by virtual "Work Zone" signs. It takes awhile to move from the initial idea, over the design potholes and through the production detours to a result that we're happy with, and believe you will be too. Our thought is to give a preview of coming collections here, enticing you to come back to see what's new and reminding us that we'd better keep pushing through the brambles because now everyone knows what we're working on!
By early December, we'll be ready with a beautiful new series of scarves digitally printed from the landscape paintings of a wonderful Hudson Valley artist, Karen Williams Edelmann. Our idea was to bring the experience of painting (brushwork and color and that elusive emotional quality) off of the wall, so to speak, and let you take it with you throughout the day or evening. Plus it seems only fair to give Monet and his waterlilies some competition on that front. The series will start with a couple of images and then increase by several more in the following weeks. We think, honestly, that the results are magical.
By the end of January, we expect to be adding a small -- 2 to 6 styles -- collection of pillows that draw on the same set of inspirations and design propensities that fuel our scarf lines. Pleated wool and delicately-shaped wool appliques to start, digitally-printed photographic (abstract and floral) images to follow and, fingers crossed, a series inspired by the haunting beauty of Burmese pagodas that we saw on a long-ago trip to Asia.
Spring scarves as the seasons change.
And, down the road, our first collections of lighting and vessels. At this stage, all we'd care to say is that the concept is modern, the sketches look cool and it's going to be a great learning experience. More to come.
